Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know before you start your electrolysis journey.

  • Electrolysis is the only FDA-approved method of permanent hair removal. It works by inserting a tiny, hair-width probe into the natural opening of the follicle — not piercing the skin — so you don’t feel the probe go in. Once in place, a quick burst of current (delivered in hundredths of a second) destroys the growth cells responsible for hair production. Each follicle is treated individually, making electrolysis highly precise and effective — even for stubborn or hormonally-driven hair.

  • Yes. Electrolysis is currently the only method recognized by the FDA as truly permanent. It destroys the follicle’s ability to grow new hair, meaning once a follicle is fully treated, it’s gone for good.

  • Permanent hair removal is a process, not a one-time treatment. You’ll see progress after each session, but because of natural hair growth cycles, most clients need a series of treatments over time. We’ll discuss a plan tailored to you during your consultation.

  • You’ll see less hair after every session — but it’s important to understand why. Electrolysis treats hairs individually, and only those in the active growth (anagen) phase can be permanently destroyed. That means each session clears the visible hair present at the time, and over time, you’ll notice fewer and fewer hairs returning. Some may grow back softer or finer at first, but with consistent treatment, you’ll see steady, visible progress as we work through the full growth cycle.

  • Everyone experiences discomfort differently, but most describe it as a brief, sharp pinch that fades quickly. The advanced technology I use offers a smoother, more comfortable experience than outdated machines. We go at your pace, and I’ll check in with you throughout.

  • Sessions can range from 15 minutes to an hour or more, depending on your goals and the type of growth we’re treating. I often recommend longer appointments to achieve full clearance, followed by shorter maintenance sessions as needed.

  • Absolutely. Electrolysis is especially effective for hormonal hair growth caused by PCOS, menopause, or other endocrine conditions.

  • I specialize in facial electrolysis, but also treat small body areas such as underarms, fingers, stomach, or bikini line — depending on availability. We’ll cover your priorities during your consultation.

  • Laser and electrolysis work very differently. Laser targets pigment in the hair and can be a great option for reducing large areas of dark hair — but it’s not suitable for all hair colours or skin tones, and results are often temporary. Electrolysis works by treating each follicle directly, regardless of hair or skin type, and is the only method approved for permanent hair removal. It’s especially effective for finer, hormonal, or facial hair that laser often struggles with.

  • No problem. Many clients come to me after laser, especially if they’ve experienced patchy results or increased growth (known as laser-induced hypertrichosis). We’ll assess the follicles and create a plan that works with your history.

  • Yes — in fact, shaving is encouraged. Unlike plucking or waxing, shaving doesn’t interfere with the follicle, so it’s perfectly fine between treatments. We want the hair root intact when you come in. Avoid any method that removes the root, such as waxing, plucking, or threading, as these will delay your progress and make hairs temporarily untreatable.

  • Please arrive with clean, makeup-free skin. Avoid caffeine beforehand if you’re sensitive to it, as it can increase skin sensitivity. It’s important that I can physically see the hair in order to treat it — if there’s no visible hair on the surface, I can’t access the follicle or confirm it’s active. For best results, allow the hair to grow for a few days before your session, and avoid plucking, waxing, or using any method that removes the root.

  • After your session, it’s important to keep the area clean and avoid heat, exfoliation, or heavy skincare for 48 hours. You’ll leave with a simple aftercare card to guide you through exactly what to do (and what to avoid) for the best results. If you ever have questions after a treatment, you’re always welcome to reach out.

  • Yes, absolutely. You’re welcome to stay in the waiting area until you feel comfortable heading out. The clinic is private, calm, and designed with your comfort in mind — and remember, everyone here is on the same journey. There’s no need to feel self-conscious, ever.

  • Yes. Life happens, and I understand things come up — but out of respect for everyone’s time:

    • Cancellations with less than 24 hours’ notice will be charged 50% of the appointment fee.

    • If you arrive late, you’ll receive treatment for the remaining time left in your session, but the full fee still applies.

This helps keep things running smoothly for all clients and ensures fairness across the schedule. Thank you for understanding.
